Know That They Thrived Here

Print
A concise history of the area first settled in the 1700s that became known as Androvettetown. With the discovery of clay in the mid-19th century by German immigrant Balthasar Kreischer, a quasi-company town soon developed around the Kreischer Brick Manufacturing Co. By 1900 Hungarian immigrants began to arrive in Kreischerville, where they lived, worshiped, and prospered for more than 50 years. Known today as Charleston, "Kreischerville" is still preferred by many.
