Into the Third Millennium

A Vision for the Future

Recognizing, understanding and addressing the challenges ahead

There are new challenges and many exciting adventures ahead for the Tottenville Historical Society:

  • Ward-Leven House, 96 Satterlee Street, Conference House Park

96.2

In 2016 the Tottenville Historical Society initiated discussions with the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation to rehabilitate the Ward-Leven House, vacant and gutted for decades, in Conference House Park, Tottenville.  As a collaborative partner of the Parks Dept., the Society hopes to occupy the second story of the house as a permanent tenant.  Plans for the first floor include public space for exhibitions, programs, meetings, etc.  Hard work, citizen involvement and funding will save this historic house and create a usable space in a public park.

We encourage you to write to the Staten Island Parks borough commissioner, Lynda Ricciardone, at Lynda.Ricciardone@parks.nyc.gov, and express support for this community project.

  • Digital Age

The impact of the digital age has greatly affected our lives.  As a historical organization, it has forced us to change the way we think and the way we write, teach and present history.  It is no longer enough to collect and preserve items from the past. We are working towards making them more accessible for everyone while dealing with the challenges of copyright and security.

Check back often as we update these items and add more!
